Our Hatchery Team Leader attends the National Seafood Industry Leadership Program (NSILP)

At Ornatas, we focus on providing opportunities to the team which can help them in honing their skills, professional & personal development.

Our hatchery team leader, Brandon Panebianco, recently attended the National Seafood Industry Leadership Program (NSILP). Hosted by Affectus, NSILP is a national leadership program created in consultation with seafood industry leaders, for people who want to pursue leadership roles in the seafood industry.

The online 3-day course was a new experience for Brandon as he was not used to learning virtually. Through this program, he was able to learn about different leadership components, various leadership styles, and in-depth media training.

Brandon also gained knowledge regarding the dynamics of power and responsibilities, managing and dealing with different personalities and how to structure it around the workplace, and for personal development.

NSILP also organised a virtual drinks night which helped everyone in the program network and create ties with people from the seafood industry all over Australia.

Another part of the program was to engage in a project, where Brandon became a part of the “Events” team which worked in promoting Australian seafood through indigenous cooking and traditional methods. Rooted in sustainability, community, and quality, they hope to share authentic Australian seafood flavours all over the globe.

Brandon believes that accomplishing the course will help him become a better leader for Ornatas in terms of managing the people he’s responsible for and in implementing processes that may accelerate the development of the company.

Our CEO Scott Parkinson is also a graduate of the program and was extremely supportive of Brandon in completing this course.

“There are always areas that you have to push yourself, things that you might not be overly comfortable with… it’s not always an easy conversation to have, but it’s a really important part of developing as a leader,” says Brandon when asked about his biggest takeaway from the personal development segment of the course.
