Over the course of 2020, Ornatas has seen some incredible progress within it’s Moreton Bay Bug Hatchery.
This Moreton Bay Bug (see below) was part of Ornatas’ first Commercial Scale Hatchery larval run in March earlier this year. Since then, this Juvenile Moreton Bay Bug has hatched, transitioned through Nisto to a juvenile, and will now continue to molt many more times as it grows and reaches maturity.
The Ornatas team has been pleased with the progress and have seen a significant improvement in the Juvenile growth and development with each of the Moreton Bay Bug production runs.
The Hatchery team will continue to work closely with the Moreton Bay Bugs which have played a vital role in leading the way for our hatchery practices due to their similarities to the Tropical Rock Lobster in systems, feeding and larval rearing practices. Their success brings confidence to progression of the Tropical Rock Lobster Hatchery where the recently arrived Broodstock are now acclimatising to their new environment.
