Queensland Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries, Mark Furner MP, visited Ornatas at the University of Tasmania (IMAS) hatchery today. Ornatas and the University proudly showcased the ground-breaking scientific research that has given the University an international reputation as a centre of excellence for hatchery based spiny lobster production. Ornatas CEO Scott Parkinson shared the companies vision of the commercialisation of the spiny lobster breeding and the plans to create a new aquaculture industry in Australia. Minister Furner’s department has been instrumental in Ornatas finding their aquaculture site north of Townsville to undertake the commercial grow-out of both Tropical Rock Lobsters and Moreton Bay Bugs. The team at Ornatas would like to thank the Minister for visiting the University facility, and to better understand the science behind the companies first venture into Northern Queensland.
